Hello, lifeguarding is a considerable responsibility. Knowing how to recognise patrons that are in distress or drowning is the most crucial skill a lifeguard can have. However, when you start lifeguarding or work in an aquatic facility that does not do a lot of rescues, you may not have much experience recognise distressed swimmers or drowning victims. U Learn Online Lifeguard Distress Swimmer/Drowning victim recognition course gives you real-life experience in a safe environment.

U Learn Online Lifeguard training: recognition of distressed swimmers and the non-swimmers course is a continuing education course that covers the usual presentations of non-swimmers and distressed swimmers and how cognitive load affects lifeguarding.
I have links to a YouTube channel in the course with videos of real distressed swimmers or non-swimmers needing to recuse. Being able to view and analyze the presentations and lead up to where the patron got in trouble in a safe environment will help you recognize patrons in your aquatic environment faster

Jeff Ellis and Associates perform a study about how long it took for lifeguards to recognise a submerge patron that was in trouble. A manikin was submerged 500 times in 90 different pools across the US. The result was 9% of the time the manikin was spotted within 10 seconds, 43% of the time the manikin was spotted in 30 seconds, 41% took over a 1 minute, and 14% took 1 minute to 3 minutes to spot the manikin. The lifeguards were not told this study was happening.

Enjoy.
